Emotions: Can you trust them?
1 John 2:18
You can't always trust your emotions or desires. It was Eve's failure to control her emotions and desires that lead her to give Adam the fruit to eat. It was Adam's desire to listen and please his wife and ignore the instructions from God. Negative emotions and desires leads to sin. James 1:14-15 says that each persona is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death
Desires and temptations fall in the three general categories; the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. Your emotions can lead to negative choices. Eve and Adam failed to their desire to have more. God had given them everything they needed. But their feelings got the best of them leading them to making a bad choice. Satan uses the same old tricks on us today. We must face it… we tend to love the things of the world more that the things of God. Satan tried to tempt Jesus with the same three temptation, but it did not work. Jesus Christ loved his Father more and desired to do the will of the father. 1 John 2:15-18, warns all of us to not love the world or the things in the world because this world and its pleasures are passing away.
Although we have to live in this world and there are things that we need for our survival, but it is important to remember that we are not to love the things more than God. Do you find yourself putting God last and things first? If so, remember that you can’t always trust your emotions and your desires. You are must desire what God wants and nothing else.
